Happy Thanksgiving Everyone – May Your Days Be Blessed with Health, Gratitude and Delight
This gorgeous silvery green pumpkin sits as the centerpiece on our Thanksgiving table. It is an heirloom Jarrahdale pumpkin grown by my favorite local farmers. A beautiful symbol of the season. I recently tried making pumpkin soup cooked inside a Jarrahdale pumpkin. You can read all about my adventure this Sunday, November 25th in my post Pumpkin Soup Cooked In a Pumpkin – Laughter Saved the Day.
Sending much gratitude to each of you on Thanksgiving and throughout the year
May these (slightly edited) tips from Dr. Mark Hyman, assist you in making your everyday healthy, your everyday delicious.
- Start the day in a mindful way: Get your body moving and take time to be still and quiet. Going on a walk or run, doing yoga, making time for a morning meditation gets our blood moving while encouraging an aware mind.
- Hydrate: Drinking enough water is essential for promoting good digestion, energy and focus, transporting nutrients, encouraging circulation and metabolism, and in regulating our appetite.
- Check in with your hunger: How do you want to feel at the end of the meal? Satisfied and happy or overly full and exhausted. Ask yourself where your hunger levels are before you start eating and continue to check in throughout the meal.
- Choose wisely: Enjoy options with high-quality protein and fats to encourage satiation and reduce extra carb cravings. Make vegetables the star of the plate. Non-starchy varieties like leafy greens are rich in fiber and phytonutrients, such as these Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Toasted Pecans. To aid in blood sugar balancing, limit starchier options such as sweet potatoes to smaller servings.
- Chew slowly: Paying attention to the pace at which we chew our food can make a huge impact on the total amount of food we consume. It’s much easier to eat less and feel satisfied when we pay attention to and appreciate the tastes and textures of each bite.
